Sandals Curaçao Resort Features and Activities

Everyone travels differently. Sometimes couples want to relax by the beach or pool, eat, and drink to their heart’s content. Others, are the life of the party, and unless they’re doing something, they’re bored. Sandals caters to both types of guests. They have a ton of fun activities that you can participate in without ever leaving the property.

Water Sports

First off, are the water sports. All of their resorts have a diving program. In fact, my husband became Padi certified on our trip to Grenada several years ago. These do come at an additional fee and can vary from resort to resort. I took part in a training program to become a beginning diver, but I didn’t make it. It’s not for me. The instructors were knowledgable, encouraging, and fun, but after a while in the pool I was cold, cranky, and done. Now, I stick to the other water sports available. In Curaçao, those were paddle boarding, kayaking, and sailing on a hobie cat. We did each of these on my birthday, and had a blast!

I had tried paddle boarding before, but I like doing it in Curaçao better, because they have a little cove area at the beach with a pier. I’m a scaredy cat, and during my last experience I felt like I was getting too far out to sea and was afraid I wouldn’t be able to easily make it back. It was impossible to go past the pier, so there were no worries about getting out too far. I just went for a paddle to the edge of the Sandals property and back.

The kayak was also fun. My husband and I have kayaked many times together, usually in a tandem kayak. We’ve learned that I can sit in the front and relax, and he’ll sit in the back and do all of the paddling and steering and we both have a great time. I am not the best at paddling, so if I try to control the boat, we both end up a little frustrated.

We’ve also been out on hobie cats before. We’ve had a member of the water sports team take us out, and at another (not Sandals affiliated) resort, we were given a short tutorial and went out on our own. In Curaçao, a guide took us out, which I prefer. He took us out into the Spanish waters. It was not the best sailing day as it was quite calm and there wasn’t much wind, regardless we had a great time.

Pool and Beach

There are several pools, but only one main beach at Sandals Curaçao. I prefer going to the beach the most often, but only because I have a pool at home that I can visit any time I’d like. There are multiple pools, but most people only use two of them, the main pool (infinity pool), and the “quiet pool”. The main pool is always hopping. It has an awesome design, and is so fun to lounge in or by. It also includes a swim up pool bar. The playmakers always have something going on here. We did water aerobics, participated in games such as create your own drink contest, ate popsicles delivered by the one and only Leon, and of course ate pizzas. Garrett and Ashley brought some inflatable pool floats that pack up very small but don’t take a lot of air to inflate. All four of us had a great time taking turns floating on those.

My friends reserved a cabana at the quiet pool on my birthday. It was nice to just relax without a lot of activity going on. The price of the cabana includes service from someone who will bring you snacks, meals, and drinks. Tips are expected at the conclusion of this service. I did not find our attendant to be very attentive. She would pop in to check on us periodically, but not nearly as often as I would expect. Overall, it was a great experience and my friends and husband made me feel special. When the playmakers want to have a pool game such as volleyball or basketball, they will use the quiet pool. While we were there, most people chose not to participate however, once a game did get going where Garrett and Bill played the playmakers. It’s a fun way to get to the know guys working there.

The beach was a bit small, we always tried to snag a spot under a palapa. They are few and far between and tend to fill up early by butlers reserving them. There’s a bar in the back of the beach area, as well as a restaurant for snacks and lunch. There are large circular loungers out in the ocean. The water sports are also located in this area. It would be possible to do a bit of snorkeling, even though this area has a pier separating the beach from the deep waters in the ocean, there are still a few small fish that show up in the waters near the beach. I even spotted a very small octopus once! Usually once a day they have something going on at the beach during the afternoon. One afternoon, a saxophonist came out and played for the beachgoers.

Finally, if you just need some time to get away by yourself or with your honey, there are little pockets throughout the main area of the resort. There is a little wading pool in one, others have some comfortable chairs to curl up in. Most often they are empty, but would be a fun place to read while still being outside in the warm Caribbean sunshine.

Evening Entertainment

In the evening, the entertainment turns up a notch. Every night, there is something going on. Sometimes it’s on the beach, others it’s in the main lobby. We watched a performance where the entertainment team would dance, one of the playmakers sang. Those ladies and gentleman are talented. Another night, they were on the beach doing acrobatics. Also on the beach, we watched a fire show with dancing, and fire eating. Finally, one of the playmakers (prompted by my friends) made me feel special by reserving a lounger right up front for the 80’s night show (on my birthday). The entertainment team started off by dancing, then O’Ryan sang, and the night ended with a very fun silent dance party. Everyone donned a pair of headphones and could switch back and forth between two DJs. It was such a great way to end my birthday! They did have other themed night that we did not attend, Reggae Night for example. Also one evening, they had a movie under the stars on the other side of the resort. They used a projector, an inflatable screen, and had loungers set up for guests.

There are a few amenities available at all times. There is a shuffleboard court, a large chess set outside, and then a few small tables that have electronic games in the buildings. Bill and I had a quick game of air hockey on one of these, we also got into a little match with all four of us popping different colored bubbles.

Royal Curaçao is set within a gated community that also contains a golf course. I am not a golfer, but many of the Sandals properties offer green fees and other perks if you would like golf on your vacation.

In conclusion, there are a lot of really fun things to do on property at all Sandals resorts. If you would like to experience this for yourself, you can book with Brittany at any time.
